Good Intentions don't make you skinny.....

My sleep has been all off the last few days, so my time at the gym has been slim to none.  I went on Tuesday and it was great, and had every intention on going yesterday and today.  But I just can't seem to make myself get out of bed.  Tuesday night, we went to bed kinda early (11:30) because it was so hot in our house.  We have an AC unit in our bedroom, but it's not big enough to cool the whole house, so the days when it's super hot out, we spend a lot of time just hanging out in the bedroom. Well, I'm still trying to finish reading the last book of the Fifty Shades series, so I was up until almost 1:30 reading.  And then Cody had a hard time getting comfortable, so he ended up putting his pillow at the foot end of the bed, which is right in front of the AC, and slept that way.  I ended up getting kicked in the face a few times during the night.  :)  So when my alarm went off at 7am, I turned it off and slept until 10.

Last night, we decided to let our puppy sleep in our bed, and that never makes for a great nights sleep.  She generally sleeps in her crate, but we're slowly trying to get her used to being out of her crate at night, and when we're gone.  When I start working at my new job, Cody and I will basically be working 10+ hour shifts, at the same time, so I don't want her to be crated the whole time we're gone.  We're going to be having someone come over and walk her and play with her, but I'd rather not have her crated.  So she slept in our bed. She did great until about 5, which is when she woke up and started licking everything.  She has this weird habit of licking.  She'll lick the couch, she licks pillows, she licks people....she just licks.  So I woke up to this big wet spot on the sheets where she'd been licking.  So I tried to kick her back down to the end of the bed, and she started biting and wanting to play.  She ended up getting up herself and going in her crate, so I just shut the door.  5 hours was longer than she'd slept in our bed before. We're just gonna keep trying and hopefully eventually she'll be able to sleep through the whole night.

I am so excited for tomorrow.  Since my birthday is in just about two weeks, and Cody is going to have to work the whole day, we are celebrating it tomorrow.  He bought me tickets to go see the Michael Jackson Cirque Du Soleil show! I'm super excited. I'm a big Michael Jackson fan, and I  always hoped to see him in concert one day.  Obviously, I won't be able to do that now, but I'm hoping that this show is just as good!  It's in chicago, so we're going to leave here early tomorrow morning, and spend the day probably just hanging out downtown Chciago, eating somewhere cool, and going to the show at night.  I can't wait!!

Sooner or Later....

.....I'm going to write a post about how great my workout was, and how awesome I did with logging my food.

But today isn't going to be that day.

I'm just going to cut to the chase here....I ate crappy.  Monday and Tuesday, I basically ate nothing but crap.  I am struggling with wrapping my mind around the fact that a day off of work doesn't mean a day off of being healthy.

Monday morning, I had planned on running.  I don't have any other excuses as to why I didn't run, other than the fact that I have missed my husband and didn't want to leave him.  Lame, I know, but he's been working weird hours so we haven't seen each other much.

So after sleeping in, we spent the day just hanging out.  We went out to dinner with Cody's brother for his birthday, and then went to Target.  After we shopped, we went to the Drive-In to see Brave.  While there, I ate wayyy too much food.  Popcorn, pretzels, chocolate, chips....I don't know what was wrong with me.

The next day, I had a stomach ache from all the crappy food, so that was my excuse as to why I didn't go run.  I don't know why I didn't take that as a hint, because Tuesday was spent with more junk.  We took Remy to a local dog park/daycare.  In order for them to take her for a day for daycare, or boarding, they need to go through a test, to check and see if the dog is well behaved enough to go.  She, of course, passed with flying colors.  This place is awesome, because not only do they have nature trails, fenced in areas for small and big dogs, 2 ponds for dogs to swim in, but they also have agility courses, daycare, boarding, grooming, and training.  It's kind of expensive ($10 to take your dog through the parks/trails/ponds, and $25 a day for daycare), but totally worth it.  We took Remy through the trails, and she went swimming for the first time.  French Bulldogs aren't always the best swimmers, because they are top heavy, but she loved it! She was pretty scared of the water at first, but she did great, and didn't want to leave!

After we got home, we cleaned up the house a bit, and Cody mowed the lawn, and then we headed out to go see a baseball game.  I love going to the ball park, and mostly because I love beer and food.  And to add to the mix, they had $0.10 hot dogs.  I could get full on 10 hot dogs for $1! Yes, please! I didn't eat 10, but I had a few.  As well as some nachos, and ice cream, and beer.  WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?!  It's like I was asking to gain the 13lbs I have lost back in two days.

I was determined to get up and go this morning....but that determination wasn't awake at 7am when I had planned on going.  Because of all the junk, I had a stomach ache again.  So, instead of going to the gym, I got back in bed.  I just need to find where my motivation went, and get it back.  I wish I could bottle the feeling I have when I'm done running, and just take it every morning when I can't seem to pull myself out of bed.

I am going to the gym tomorrow morning though.  I promise.

It's getting Closer!

I guess this means it's official....

I went and picked up my race packet yesterday.  I didn't really know what to expect, but I got a tshirt, my bib, a water bottle, and then the schedule/race map.  I'm half tempted to drive the route of the race, but since it starts and ends at the high school, I'm not sure I can do that.  I'm getting more and more nervous/excited.  I think my biggest fear is making a fool of myself, and being the only adult that has to run/walk. My cousin and pastors wife are both leading the team of girls that I'll be running with, and they're both runners (my pastors wife, Tricia, ran the Princess Half this past February) and they both have been motivating me, I don't want to let them down.  I think that's the biggest reason I'm nervous - I don't want to let anyone down.

Anyway, in other news, I went to the gym this morning.  I was going to run, but my legs are still kinda sore from yesterdays run, so I took it easy. I walked for 20 minutes on the treadmill, and then did 25 minutes on the stationary bike.  Enough to get some activity in, but not too much.  I'm going to take tomorrow off, and then I'll be all rested up for Saturday.

Well, I'd better go.  I'm thinking about going out and gardening for a bit, and I need to nap before work tonight.  Have a great day!

Early Morning

I think I mentioned in a previous post, that I've been having issues with sleeping.  I generally don't get home from work until 11pm or so, and Cody and I are up until around 12:30am.  Every night, almost like clockwork, I wake up at 6am, and can't get back to sleep.  Sometimes I'll lay there and try to doze off until it's time to wake up, and some other mornings I'll just get up.  This morning, I decided to get up and go to the gym.  I didn't want to run on the track again (once I got the taste of running outside, I'd MUCH rather do that!) but I knew I needed to get some kind of workout in. So, I grabbed my kindle and decided I'd just walk on the treadmill.

Since I was super tired, I was only gonna do one mile on the treadmill, but I ended up going for 1.5 miles. Then, I thought about doing an elliptical, but I changed my mind and did the stationary bike instead, and rode for just over 5 miles.  Not the most difficult workout, but at least it's something!  And it was good to be able to read and kind of get into my own world.

I'm gonna try to get a nap in before I go to work, I hope everyone has a great Friday!

3.13

I decided last night that I was going to go to my moms house and run around her neighborhood instead of running up and down my road.  We had to drop off Cody's car at the mechanic, and then I dropped him off at work and I went to my moms house.  I was stalling, because I did NOT want to do this run today.  I didn't sleep well, I got up at 6am instead of 8, and only got about 5 hours of sleep.  I decided today was the day that I'd start tracking my food again (I'll go into why I stopped logging in another post later tonight).  New Month, New Beginning.

So, I got to my moms and went outside.  I played with my phone a bit and finally figured out what I had to disconnect to make the GPS on my phone work so that I could use the mapmyrun app.  I didn't have a set path, I was just gonna run up and down the streets until I had gone the length of a 5k.  I hadn't ever gone that far, and I just wanted to see how long it felt, how I'd feel after, etc.  I knew I couldn't run the whole thing, but I did the best I could.  49 minutes later, I had gone 3.13 Miles!!!!    I am SUPER proud of myself!!  Turns out, my stupid piece of crap junky HRM is super inaccurate, because it said I only went 2.3 miles.  It had also said that it took me 20 minutes to do a mile, and turns out that's not quite right either.  Until I learn how to post a screen shot of my phone, here is my workout today:

Distance: 3.13 Miles
Time: 49:16
Average Pace: 15:45
Average Speed: 3.81

I know I went pretty slow, but I still finished much faster than I had thought.  I told my husband this morning that my goal was to do the 5k distance in less than an hour, so I'm proud of what I did.  This also means that I am under a 16 minute mile (just barely, but still!), which is the requirement for the Princess Half!!!  I still have months to train, so there's no doubt in my mind that I'll be able to do it!!! YAY ME!!!!!

Sleepy

So I did NOT wanna get out of bed today.  Since we were out of town on Monday night, I slept terrible.  And Sunday night, I didn't sleep all too well either. I was hoping to get a good, full night of sleep last night, but I didnt.  I went to bed around midnight, but didn't fall asleep until about 1am.  And then I woke up around 7:30, even though my alarm was set for 8.  I think that my mind is running too much lately.  I have my training on my mind, the move, the 5K I signed up for yesterday.  I also know that I work most of the night, so I don't wanna waste my day by sleeping in all morning.

But, I was able to pull myself out of bed.  I left my workout clothes in the dryer at the new house, so I had to go to the house this morning before I could head to the gym.  I bought some Power Bar energy gel to try out for my run this morning, so I tried that....and it was nasty. I think eventually I might be able to eat them, but I just wanted a bowl of cereal and I forgot to eat before I left.

My run was fine. I did Week 5 Day 1, and it wasn't much harder than last week.  My next run, I have to run for 8 minutes, and then after that I have to run a 20 minute run. I don't know what I'm gonna do, I dont think I'll be able to do it. I'm just gonna make sure to get some good sleep the night before, and pray the whole way that I can do it!
